After the successful launch of PRINCE2^® (Projects in Controlled Environments) in Great Britain, this project methodology has also found increasing interest in the Netherlands. PRINCE2^® was developed by the Office of Government Commerce (OGC), a British office of government responsible for the generic implementation of work methods within governmental institutions. PRINCE2^® is a generic 'best practice' project management work method which can be applied in many different types of projects.This project management method has developed into a de facto standard for the British government and many other private companies and institutions both at home and abroad. PRINCE2^® provides a well-defined structure with clear roles and responsibilities for those involved. Participation by the users in the decision making process is included and there is a clear allocation of resources as part of go/no go decisions. Due to its scalability PRINCE2^® can easily be modified and adjusted to individual needs. In cooperation with the Association of Project Management Group (APMG) the OCG has developed a certification program to guarantee a measurable and consistent level of quality for those involved in PRINCE2^® projects.

There are 2 accreditation levels:

• the basic level is for project members, team leaders and others involved in PRINCE2^® projects. The so-called PRINCE2^® Foundation;
• the advanced level of PRINCE2^® Practitioner is for project managers who are responsible for leading the projects.

In this course you will be prepared to learn how to use the method in projects. In combination with the follow-up course 'PRINCE2^® Practitioner Exam Training' you will be fully prepared for the exam.

Objectives

At the end of this course you will be able to:

• define and apply principles, themes and processes of the PRINCE2^® method in all its aspects ;
• organize and manage projects according to the PRINCE2^® method;
• recognize and control quality and risks;
• monitor the objective and the required results of the project and in case of a change in the "Business Case" ensure that the necessary adjustments are debatable and under control in order to proceed with the project in a changing corporate environment.

Prerequisites

Knowledge at the level of the PRINCE2^® Foundation training course.

Course content

The course consists of a plenary session with a maximum of 15 participants, which is built up of practice sessions, group discussions and presentations. By means of a case study the complete life cycle of a PRINCE2^® project is followed. The emphasis of the training lies on being able to adequately apply the PRINCE^® method to a case. Between the two theoretical blocks a homework assignment will be completed by the team, this being the production of a Project Initiation Document (PID).

The following subjects will be dealt with in depth:

• The PRINCE2^® principles
• the relationship with the "Business Case", programs and projects
• the PRINCE2^® processes: Starting up a Project, Initiating a Project, Directing a Project, Controlling a Stage, Managing Stage Boundaries, Managing Product Delivery and Closing a Project
• the PRINCE2^® themes: Organization, Planning, Risk Management, Controls, Quality of the Project Environment, Change Control, Configuration Management and Stages

Work modes

In addition to the presentation by the trainer, group practice sessions will be held on the basis of a case. These practice sessions will enable you to try out and apply the subject matter during the training. The evaluation with the trainer and the group will both allow for elaborating on the theory and adding to it. In between the two theoretical blocks a homework assignment is completed by the team, which will be assessed by the trainer.

The PRINCE2^® Practitioner course lasts 3 weeks and consists of 2 blocks of 2 days.

Block 1 and 2:

• day 1 from 09.30 am to 17.00 pm
• day 2 from 09.30 am to 17.00 pm
