After a successful launch of PRINCE2^® (Projects IN Controlled Environments) in Great Britain the PRINCE2^® method has found increasing interest in the Netherlands. PRINCE2^® was developed by the Office of Government Commerce (OGC), a British Government organization responsible for the generic application of among other things working methods within governmental institutions. PRINCE2^® is a generic 'best-practice' project management methodology and can be applied to all types of projects. In the past few years PRINCE2^® has developed into a de facto standard for the British government and many private corporations both at home and abroad. PRINCE2^® has a defined structure with clear tasks and responsibilities for all those involved. Users participate in the decision-making process and resources are clearly allocated as part of go/no go decisions. Due to its scalability PRINCE2^® can easily be modified and adjusted to individual needs. In cooperation with the Association of Project Management Group (APMG) the OCG has developed a certification program to guarantee a measurable and consistent level of quality for those involved in PRINCE2^® projects.

There are 2 accreditation levels:

• the basic level is for project members, team leaders and others involved in PRINCE2^® projects. The so-called PRINCE2^® Foundation;
• the advanced level of PRINCE2^® Practitioner is for project managers who are responsible for leading the projects.

Objectives

After completing the PRINCE2^® Foundation training you will be able to:

• distinguish and name the PRINCE2^® processes;
• distinguish and name the PRINCE2^® themes;
• distinguish and name the PRINCE2^® principles;
• distinguish and name the most important PRINCE2^® management products (baselines, registers and reports);
• effectively take part in a project according to the PRINCE2^® Method.

For whom

The training is intended for project members, team leaders and (future) project leaders.

Prerequisites

You will be expected to have experience in working in projects. In addition you will have studied the preparatory literature sent to you.

Course content

The training consists of a plenary session built up of group and individual exercises and discussions. During the training the complete lifecycle of a PRINCE2^® project is followed.

The training includes all 4 integrated elements:

• the PRINCE2^® principles
• the PRINCE2^® model;
• the PRINCE2^® themes;
• tailoring and embedding

The mutual cohesion of these four elements will be discussed on the basis of a PRINCE2^® project lifecycle.

In the training the following subjects will be dealt with:

• the relationship between the project and the Business Case and themes;
• overview and characterics of the PRINCE2^® principles and processes;
• roles and the appropriate tasks and responsibilities within a PRINCE2^® project;
• set-up and content of a product oriented project plan;
• the controlling of the project in relation to the project plan;
• defining, controling and acceptance of work packages.

Work modes

After the presentation by the trainer, exercises will be done during the training by way of (trial) exam questions (multiple-choice) and a case. These exercises will enable you to test and apply the subject matter during the training. The evaluation with the trainer and the group will both allow for elaborating on the theory and adding to it. In the evenings between the blocks, mock exams can be made as homework. It is also possible to take the PRINCE2^® Foundation Exam (written) straight after the training (at extra cost and this must be booked in advance).

The training requires some study time in the evening.

Duration

The training lasts three days and consists of 2 days from 9.30 am until 17.00 pm. The third day is from 9.30 am until 15.00 pm and if there are sufficient participants it is possible to take the (written) PRINCE2^® Foundation exam straight after the training.

ISES Exam guarantee!

ISES offers guaranteed exam success which means:

• if you do not pass the first exam you can at no extra cost (excluding arrangement costs);
• attend (part of) a training again until you have succeeded;
• take part in another exam training;
• ask questions to ISES trainers by e-mail or phone.

Additional exam costs are for your own organisation, unless ISES is explicitly accountable for you failure to pass the exam. In that case the costs are for ISES. This exam guarantee is valid for three months after taking the (first) exam. Another training course can be taken again within a year at a location where a course is not fully booked. If this is the case the next available date may be booked.

Invoice

We will send you an invoice on receipt of your enrolment form. This will include the total amount for the training, materials, arrangement costs and VAT (if relevant). The invoice must be paid before the first day of training.

Relationship with other ISES courses

The PRINCE2^® Foundation training is the necessary preparation for attending the PRINCE2^® Practitioner training course. In order to obtain the PRINCE2^® Practitioner Certificate both PRINCE2^® Foundation and the PRINCE2^® Practitioner exams have to be taken with success.

In addition ISES also offers general project management courses that are not linked to specific methods, such as the training 'Project Management for Project and Team Leaders'. To further enhance professionalism in the areas of team building and personal skills ISES offers 'Project Management Leadership' and 'Politics around Projects' training courses.There is also the possibility of applying what has been learned in a game situation with the aid of a 'PRINCE2^® Simulation'.
